ANIRBAN MISHRA
Akara Contemporary
1995
Born and brought up in Medinipur, West
Bengal, in 1995, Anirban Mishra completed his B. F. A. in Painting from The
Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship in 2017 and M. F. A. in Painting from
S. N. School of Arts and Communication from the University of Hyderabad in
2019.
Often like a wanderer or a strolling
player, Anirban encounters and documents the poignancy of city life. Hailing
from a small town himself, the artist has struggled to be a part of a
fast-moving urban metropolis. From being in awe of the vastness of the city to
finding his own space within it– the constant negotiation has been a
discovering process for Anirban’s practice. His architectural cityscapes are
mostly devoid of human presence - one can only spot a cat or a lone figure
somewhere. With a rather European colour palette, Anirban’s coffee-washed
paintings invite viewers to experience the nuances of solitude, melancholia,
and the verve of urban life.
Anirban Mishra is one of the six
contemporary artists represented by Akara, his first solo with the gallery
being ‘In Solitude I Seek’ in 2022.
The artist lives and works in Medinipur.
