INDIA ART FAIR 2024

February 01 - February 04 , 2024

Early last year, Akara announced the opening of its new gallery, Akara Contemporary, a platform for the current and next generation of South Asian and international artists. In this regard, our booth at IAF 2024 will host a plethora of Contemporary Art, giving guests and visitors an insight into our gallery’s programming.

Drawing from our inaugural exhibition at Akara Contemporary, our booth will feature works by Brazilian artist Rebecca Sharp, whose compositions present bold yet delicate visualizations of multiple planes of existence, filled with imagery symbolic of the cosmos. These works will find their rhythm alongside Keita Miyazaki’s sculptures, featuring materials whose association suggests strident discord and an unfamiliar visual language. The juxtaposition of solid and universal materials such as metal against light and fragile paper and felt, escape formal paradigms, evoking a sense of aesthetic intrigue. Adding to Trishla Jain’s paintings that explore the profound relationship between art, mindfulness, and the breath will be the works of Bhagyashree Suthar, Utkarsh Makwana, and Anirban Mishra, who belong to the gallery’s stable of Indian contemporary artists. Amidst the theatrics that occupy Dhruva Mistry’s stainless-steel sculptures, which tap into myth, literature, and religion are Sathi Guin’s detailed compositions of linear abstract forms. Jordy Kerwick’s raw and unapologetic approach to palette and pattern and British sculptor Jonathan Trayte’s body of work, which draws inspiration from the surreal aspects of seemingly-mundane objects, will further the dialogue between the exhibiting artists.

Each year, Akara strives to centre India and South Asia within the continuum of international art history and brings alternative narratives and realities to the foreground of global discourse.
