ART DUBAI 2024

February 28 - March 03 , 2024

Early last year, Akara announced the opening of its second space, Akara Contemporary, a platform for the current and next generation of South Asian and international artists. Our booth at Art Dubai 2024 will host the work of five artists who belong to the gallery’s roster of Indian contemporary artists, giving guests and visitors an insight into our programming.

Our booth will feature works by Trishla Jain, whose paintings explore the profound relationship between art, mindfulness, and the breath- her canvases populated by a choreographed interplay of lines, dots and dashes. While Bhagyashree Suthar draws inspiration from architecture and geometric patterns in nature to create forms that oscillate between the man-made and the biological, Utkarsh Makwana questions the everyday realities that he comes across, employing his observations and references from miniature paintings as tools for storytelling. Further, Dhruva Mistry’s stainless-steel sculptures, which tap into myth, literature, and religion will find their rhythm alongside Sathi Guin’s detailed compositions of linear abstract forms. The artist describes her work as a reflection of her dreams and emotions- they are neither metaphysical nor symbolic, but purely experiential.

Akara strives to centre India and South Asia within the continuum of international art history and brings alternative narratives and realities to the foreground of global discourse.
